Last Thursday, I attended a 3 mile run (1 mile for each victim) followed by a candlelight vigil in honor of the Boston Marathon. The event was organized by See Jane Run and it was fantastic- we ran the streets of Oakland with police escorts, gave several moments of silence for all the victims within the supportive arms of our running community and found a bit of comfort therein. We brought awareness to our city and showed that we won’t be stopped- I felt so honored running through my hometown, people clapping as we ran by saying, “God bless you, runners, go Boston!” It was moving, it was emotional and it was healing…
PLUS, yours truly got interviewed for the local news that night- click on this pic to catch the brief news segment… I said lots of deep and profound things about how the events in Boston have effected our tribe as a whole but they only used these 5 seconds- I’ll take it!
I am sure we all breathed a VERY deep sigh of relief on Friday when the second suspect was captured as well as applauded and cheered right along with all of Boston that night. It’s all very reassuring and I am so amazed and humbled by the efforts of the Boston Police Department. Relentlessly they worked and within days, justice was served. I am so proud of our country, joyful for Boston and elated for our running community.
That being said, there is still more we can do to support and provide the awareness and much needed aid to the victims and people of Boston. I’ve caught a BUNCH of events and fundraisers on Facebook and Twitter and just wanted to jot off a quick post today with a nice list of even more ways to help since the first ones I posted– and, again, if you know of any others, please feel free to share the link in the comments section below.
1) Today, Monday April 22nd, fellow blogger Pavement Runner is organizing a global #BostonStrong event and so far, 120 U.S. cities are participating. To join an event in your city, check out PR’s post here and the Facebook page for the #BostonStrongSF run here.
2) Tonight at 6:30pm, Sports Basement in San Francisco is hosting a Happy Hour Fundraising event, 10% off in the store with that 10% benefiting One Fund Boston. Check out the Facebook event page here for more details.

4) Join the Run Now movement, started as a way to communicate and share the actions surrounding recovery from the Boston Marathon tragedy.
