The Hollywood Playlist

Life is so very busy crazy right now- I am ending things, beginning things, continuing things, planning things and just doing oh so many things!  As you can tell, sitting down to blog has not been anywhere near my radar lately so when I woke up at 4am this morning I figured now is a good a time as any to grab a cup of coffee and write a blog post.

I am just a few hours away from getting on a plane headed to Los Angeles to run the Hollywood Half Marathon on Saturday.   I ran the Oakland Half Marathon just 2 weeks ago (recap coming, I swear!) and it went just alright so I am hoping things will go better this time.

One of things I regretted at Oakland was not having my music.  Running with Team in Training, we are not allowed to wear headphones and as Oakland was a TNT event for me, I left my iPod behind.  And I really, really missed it!  So this time, I’m taking all the help I can get, giving in, and definitely taking my music.

I love, love, love a good playlist- here’s what I’ve got planned for Saturday’s 13.1.  Turn up those speakers, click away and SHAKE IT!!!!

Magic, B.o.B (this is a staple of my run tunes- always gets me moving!)

Mayhem, Imelda May (because that’s exactly what I call running 13 miles)

Without You, David Guetta feat. Usher (love that beat)

Glad You Came, The Wanted

Drive By, Train (everything IS groovy)

Dynamite, Taio Cruz

Young, Wild & Free, Snoop Dogg & Wiz Khalifa feat. Bruno Mars

Giving Up On Love, Slow Club (forget where I heard this song but it’s got a great beat to pick it up to)

We Found Love, Rihanna feat. Calvin Harris (THE club anthem of 2011)

Naughty Naughty, Porcelain Black (yes, most of my running songs are about partying- it’s what you earn after all that running, right?!)

International Love, Pitbull feat. Chris Brown (oh, Pitbull, I love you!)

Ay Chico (Lengua Afuera), Pitbull (I’ll show you what I’m working with, Pit!)

The Fixer, Pearl Jam (seems weird give the other songs, but this is a great settling-in song for a half, perfect at mile 6)

What Makes You Beautiful, One Direction (who are these tweens and what is this crap?  lucky for them and their Abercrombie wardrobe, I love the fluff)

Animal, Neon Trees (I know you’ve heard it a billion times but for me, this is another run staple like Magic- love the words, love the beat, always makes me fly!)

Na Na Na (Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na), My Chemical Romance

Wake Up Call, Maroon 5 (Adam Levine can sing to me ANYtime)

Sexy And I Know It, LMFAO

Party Rock Anthem, LMFAO (first time I’ve seen that video- hilarious!)

The Edge of Glory, Lady Gaga (because it wouldn’t be a play list without Gaga)

Marry The Night, Lady Gaga

Walk Away, Kelly Clarkson (old Kelly…)

What Doesn’t Kill You (Stronger), Kelly Clarkson (… and new!)

Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.), Katy Perry

Tell Me ‘Bout It, Joss Stone (she is so groovy!)

Domino, Jessie J

Tightrope, Janelle Monae feat. Big Boi (LOVE this song!!!!!!!)

Hitchin’ a Ride, Green Day (sometimes that’s exactly what I want to do around mile 10)

Holiday, Green Day

Good Feeling, Flo Rida

Dance, Dance, Fall Out Boy

Ain’t No Rest for the Wicked, Cage The Elephant (“I can’t slow down, I can’t hold back though you know I wish I could”)

Runaway Baby, Bruno Mars (I’ve been obsessed with this song- and Bruno- since I saw this performance on the Grammys)

Till The World Ends, Britney Spears (only 1 Brit Brit song this time, strange… usually there’s at least 5)

Sydney (I’ll Come Running), Brett Dennen

I Like The Way, Bodyrockers

Lonely Boy, The Black Keys

Howlin’ For You, The Black Keys

My Humps, Black Eyed Peas (an oldie but a goodie! just like my… nevermind…)

Countdown, Beyonce (Gaga, Britney, and Beyonce- now the playlist is complete)

Check On It, Beyonce

What The Hell, Avril Lavigne (go run for hours?  what the hell!)

So that’s 42 songs, approximately 2 and a half hours of music time that hopefully I’ll only need- if everything goes right- 2 hours and 10-ish minutes of.

I hope.

We’ll see.

Wish me luck!

Do you run with music?  Why or why not?  What’s your favorite running song(s)?

  1. Good luck Laura! You can do it! I know you can! Looks like your playlist rocks! I wish I was doing this run with you!

  2. I don’t usually run with music unless I’m on a treadmill or going out for a long run by myself. I try not to be too dependent on music/podcasts for motivation. Instead, I work on zoning out and/or building my mental fortitude. It’s definitely half the challenge when I’m running longer than 30 minutes. For races, I find that there’s plenty of stimuli to keep me going, though I can totally relate to the need for an added boost at times.
My favorite running song is “Born to Run” by Springsteen And while I usually don’t listen to pop music, I kinda dig it for running… so Beyonce, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Usher, LMFAO, etc.
    Good luck this weekend!
